What does SAT stand for?

SAT™ is a standardized test which is stands for “Scholastic Aptitude Test”

  • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is a standardized test with a pre-defined syllabus and the objective is to test critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze and solve problems in maths, critical reading , and writing,. Many universities and colleges consider it for admission along with high school grades.
  • SAT is classified into two clear categories. The first tests the knowledge of the subjects taught in high school namely reading, writing and maths. The second is the SAT Subject Test that assesses a student’s proficiency in a particular subject matter. This test is mostly taken by students who are applying for a specialized field of study such as English Literature, World History, Mathematics, Biology or Chemistry
  • Preparation is the only way to get a good score in the SAT.

Reading Test comprises of passages and informational graphics taken from a range of sources such as classic or contemporary work of U.S. or world literature, U.S. founding document, the U.S> Constitution, a speech by great personality, economics, psychology, sociology, or some other social science, and natural sciences. Questions on theses texts ask one to locate a piece of information or an idea stated directly or indirectly, find a relationship between an informational graphic and ths passage its paired with.

Writing and Language

The SAT Writing and Language Test asks the student to edit and improve passages that contain errors. The different skills measured are command of evidence, words in context, analysis in History/Social Studies and in Science, Expression of ideas and English conventions.

Essay (optional):

The SAT Essay measures a student’s reading, analysis, and writing skills. In this section, one is supposed to read a passage, explain how the author builds an argument to persuade an audience and support your explanation with evidence from the given passage.

How is the SAT scored?
  • SAT reports multiple scores.
  • Total score is addition of Mathematics, Evidence based Reading and Writing score. It is reported on a scale of 400-1600
  • Section scores are reported on 200-800 scale, each for Mathematics, Evidence based Reading and Writing parts.
  • TEst scores are reported for mathematics, reading and writing on the scale of 10-40
